Snyder's Superman has a villain

Superman will kneel before Zod…again.

Zack Snyder’s upcoming Superman reboot has a title – the movie has been dubbed The Man of Steel – and now it also has a villain. Warner Bros. has announced that Michael Shannon (Boardwalk Empire) will be facing off against Henry Cavill’s Superman as the evil General Zod.

“Zod is not only one of Superman’s most formidable enemies, but one of the most significant because he has insights into Superman that others don’t,” said Snyder. “Michael is a powerful actor who can project both the intelligence and the malice of the character, making him perfect for the role.”

While I think Shannon is a solid choice for Zod, I would have liked to see Warner Bros. opt for a new movie villain. Zod was originally played by Terence Stamp in Superman II, and it seems like a safe option considering that Brainiac, Bizzaro, and Darkseid are yet to make the jump to the big screen.

Oh well. At least the bad guy is someone Superman can punch this time around.
