THQ will continue to churn out Warhammer games for many years to come.

THQ and Games Workshop have announced that they are extending their Warhammer 40,000 licensing agreement with a new multi-year extension that gives THQ the rights to continue publishing games based in the Warhammer 40k universe.

“The impressive translation of the Warhammer 40,000 universe from the tabletop to the video game space by THQ certainly highlights the potential of our most successful intellectual property in the right hands,” said Mark Wells, Games Workshop CEO.

THQ has already published Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War, a real-time-strategy series that has shipped 6.5 million units to date. Plans for other Warhammer 40k games include Warhammer 40k: Space Marines, a third person shooter expected later in the year, and Warhammer 40k: Dark Millennium, an MMO which will be released at some point in the the future.

The announcement does not specify how long the partnership will continue, although the original licensing agreement was scheduled to expire in 2013.
