SOE shuts down Station.com

Sony’s PC gaming service has gone the way of the PSN.

The bad news just keeps coming. Two weeks after console gamers lost the PlayStation Network, Sony’s PC customers have lost Station.com. Sony Online Entertainment, the developer of Everquest and DC Universe Online, has shut down their online gaming service in order to investigate yet another potential security concern.

“We have had to take the SOE service down temporarily,” reads the downed website. “In the course of our investigation into the intrusion into our systems we have discovered an issue that warrants enough concern for us to take the service down effective immediately. We will provide an update later today (Monday).”

It’s not yet clear if the Station.com shutdown is directly related to the attack on the PlayStation Network, although the promised statement should clarify the issue. Whatever the case, this won’t do anything to help Sony’s image with the fans. The PSN is scheduled to make a partial return this week, so we can only hope that Station.com won’t be down for long.
