In a poll on Time Magazine, Minecraft creator Markus “Notch” Persson was second in votes, having far more people saying he should “Absolutely” be on the list rather than “No Way.”
Voting for the poll has ended and final results will be revealed next week, but Notch was behind only Egyptian Prime Minister Mohamed Morsi with 156,194 votes (a little over 16,000 behind Morsi’s 173,091). Rounding out the top five are Megaupload creator Kim Dotcom, Indian politician Arvind Kejriwal, and Syrian President Bashar Assad. This is the second poll in a week that’s had a gaming figure/company be near the top after EA was voted the worst company in America for the second year running.
While its interesting to see so many people vote for Notch, I doubt there is a big number outside the industry that know the name.
Do you think Notch is this influential, and if so why? What gaming figures would you put ahead of him? Leave your thoughts in the comments below and stay tuned for Comics & Gaming for more influential things.
