The original creator of Grand Theft Auto, Michael Dailly, is re-building the first entry in the series in 3D form.
USgamer has reported that Dailly is working on the remake using the GameMaker: Studio package, and will be rendered through a new engine. It will also run at 60 frames per second. The original GTA was from a top-down perspective, and despite its plain look it was famous for its ultra violence, alongside its implementation of radio stations and impressive sound effects.
Unfortunately, there seem to be no plans to implement gameplay into the map or release the remake to the public, however Dailly said once the project is done, he’ll decide what to do with it. You can check out progress screenshots on his Twitter account.
Dailly is currently the head of development at YoYo Games, which is the company that produced GameMaker: Studio. The tool is a game creation system designed for content creators who don’t have an extensive programming background.
The most recent entry in the GTA series launched last month in September, and has crushed seven Guinness World Records including the record for fastest entertainment property to gross $1 billion.
