Say Goodbye to Archie

Say Goodbye to Archie

After 73 years, the orange haired comic hero falls, and fans will finally see the life of Archie Andrews end. On July 16, Archie Comics will kill the protagonist in the issue Life with Archie #36.

The series shows Archie’s future, past high school and college. It follows two storylines, one where Archie ends up with Betty, and one where he ends up with Veronica. Unfortunately, his choice of life partner does not change his demise. Both storylines end the same way.

Since it takes place sometime in the future, Archie will stay alive in present day issues.  It’s still a shake up nonetheless, and in a CNN interview Archie Comics CEO Jon Goldwater said it’s not something they will take back. It’s canon.

“This isn’t a story we’re going to retcon a few weeks from now. This happened. This is the conclusion to the Life With Archie story and timeline…” says Goldwater.

Goldwater later explains that in the comic, Archie dies saving one of his friends. Then, it leaps forward a year to see how the gang has dealt with his death, and how they’ve moved on.

Archie’s first appearance was in 1941, as a teenage boy in a quiet Midwest town in the USA. Since then, he’s become one of the most recognizable comic characters across the globe.

RIP Archie.
