Daredevil Gets a Second Season with New Showrunners

Daredevil Gets a Second Season with New Showrunners - 2015-04-23 11:50:57

To no surprise, the hit Netflix Daredevil series is getting renewed for another season. Marvel and Netflix have announced the vigilante will be returning in 2016. There’s also some new faces joining the stellar cast as well as one leaving the project because of a movie he’s currently working on that is believed to be Incursion which will conflict with his return to Daredevil.

Steven DeKnight tweeted the news by saying, “I have a previous commitment in the feature world. Will reveal more down the road. RT @ShowrunnersFilm: @Sshowrunnerssay @MalikaShake”

His replacements will be Doug Petrie, and Marco Ramirez. They were involved with the first season of the critically acclaimed series and now look to fill the shoes of Steven DeKnight. Petrie has also worked on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Ramirez previously wrote for Sons of Anarchy before the show concluded a year ago. Now they will cooperate with executive producer Drew Goddard going forward.

DeKnight stated on Marvels website, that he is pleased to see both Petrie and Ramirez take charge of the project.

“While previous commitments unfortunately prevent me from continuing on with Daredevil into its second season, I could not be happier that Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez are carrying the torch. They were invaluable collaborators during our first season, and I for one can't wait to see what they do with the show moving forward."
daredevilnetflixs2insert1Hearing that will reassure fans that the projects feel and look will remain intact come 2016. Even as collaborators though, some ideas get shot down and it makes you wonder now that since they’re at the helm of the project now, what direction will they bring the blind hero next.

Ramirez, Petrie, Goddard and Jeph Loeb are now listed as the executive producers for Daredevil, with DeKnight obviously no longer retaining the title.

It was obvious Daredevil would receive a second season but now the big question is, how will the second season bring about Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist to become The Defenders? Marvel has done an admirable job of hinting to other characters in their universe across all their shows and movies.  It will be interesting to see what tones the other members of The Defenders will receive.

We have contacted Netflix for updates on the addition of Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez to the project.
