Satoru Iwata of Nintendo Passes Away at 55

It is a sad day for Nintendo fans everywhere. It has just been reported by Nintendo that Satoru Iwata president of Nintendo has passed away at age 55, due to illness. It was reported by Nintendo in a short brief issued by Nintendo that can be seen here. Iwata has served as President of Nintendo since 2002 but has spent most of his career with the publisher.

It is noted in the release that directors Genyo Takeda and Shigeru Miyamoto are still with Nintendo.

Iwata has been sick for a while now and even went in for surgery in 2014 to remove a tumor.

Our thoughts are with his friends, family and loved ones. The video game industry lost a visionary, one that will be impossible to replace.
