It seems there is more bad news for the CPU, GPU, APU producer AMD. With a fourth straight quarter of losses, it is not looking good.After the first nine months of 2015 AMD is facing a total of $557 million losses for the year.
AMD is also looking at ways to cut costs. As one of their measures, they are selling 80% of shares in the Penang, Malaysia, and Suzhou, China, facilities to Nantong Fujitsu Microelectronics. This sale should net AMD around $371 million.
This is bad news for AMD, they had struggled to make a foot hold in the highly competitive CPU business even with the new line of APU’s that target an eSports market. This news comes as rumors of Microsoft looking to purchase the CPU, APU division of the company, although these as of yet remain to be rumors with no concrete proof.
AMD currently power the Xbox One and the PS4 and are pushing VR with their latest lineup of GPU’s. Time will tell if they manage to pull out of this downward spiral, but with solid GPU tech and an interesting lineup of video-cards, I for one hope they manage it.
