I first noticed something was amiss when I went to pre-purchase/pre-load Fallout 4 and noticed the price I had to pay was around $40, almost half of the asking price of Fallout 4. Wondering why this was, I noticed that I had $35 in my PS wallet; and then it dawned on me: what was the last game I purchased that was around $35.
PS4 users may know that when you purchase a game, or get them via PS Plus, the games stay in your library, regardless of whether or not you download them to your HD. If you delete a previously owned game, they will stay in your library with the option to re-download. When I went to check my library this morning, I saw no trace of Afro Samurai 2: The Revenge of Kuma. Further digging into the PS Store yielded no results when I searched the keyword “Afro” (Although options for the show did come up).
Now initially I had sought ways to receive a refund for Afro Samurai 2, having purchased it and been totally unsatisfied with my purchase, however Sony offers no aid to anyone who seeks refunds; seriously, even if your kid’s take your credit card and buy stuff (this is an option in the help menu), you’re basically up the creek. Which is why I found it strange that there was a refunded amount that matched the price for the season pass version of the game.
At the time of writing, I have reached out to both Redacted Studios and Versus Evil however, neither companies have commented on the takedown/refund. While my thoughts on the game were pretty much universal, it’s pretty sad to see Redacted pull it from the store as if to erase the memory of it ever happening, and with the less than acceptable state the game released in, maybe that’s a good thing. Although, oddly enough the game and season pass are still available on Steam, so who knows what will become of the Afro Samurai and the two sacred headbands.
