The New York Videogame Critics Circle will gather together in Brooklyn, New York early next month to celebrate the best games of 2015 and some of the best work in the games journalism field.
These works are meant to exemplify journalistic values and showcase the author's ability to create works that illuminate and entertain through lucid writing, integrity, and wit.
The nominees include, Jon Bois, Ian Danskin, Cara Ellison and Carolyn Petit, for their outstanding work writing about games and critiquing them. A larger list of nominees and their work can be seen on the New York Videogame Critics Circle's website.
The event will be hosted by Emmy award-winning comedians and writers such as Owen Parsons and Daniel Radosh. The after party will feature Tom Clarke playing songs from Fallout 4 and Grand Theft Auto V.
Speaking of GTAV, Rockstar Games will be there to receive the Andrew Yoon Memorial Legend Award. Despite their meticulous work bringing game worlds to life, Rockstar also contributes greatly to creating jobs and donating to charities within the gaming industry.
In addition to recognizing Rockstar for its hard work, the New York Videogame Critics Circle will be granting a student from DreamYard, a preparatory high school in the Bronx, with a scholarship funded in part by Sony, Twitch and Green Man Gaming. The student will be chosen based on the winning entry of a narrative story writing contest. DreamYard is a high school that focuses on the arts and it has joined with the NYVGCC, something that Tim Lord, a co-founder and co-executive Director of DreamYard says he's thrilled about the partnership.
The event takes place February 9, 2016 at 8 pm Eastern Time. Tickets are available online only in limited quantities, there will be an open bar to attendees 21 and over. If you can't make it, consider watching the live stream on Twitch. Be sure to follow on Twitter @NYVGCC for more updates.
