Looking Ahead at Nintendo's 2016 Lineup

Nintendo has been seeing strong sales across both the WiiU and the 3DS with top sellers like Splatoon and Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer.

The 3DS’s top sellers included Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire, selling extraordinarily well over here in the Americas. Behind Pokemon raced Mario Kart 7 and Super Smash Bros. For Nintendo 3DS both still killing it even after being on the market for over a year. Trailing behind was the fashionable Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes.

Wii U’s top seller was easily Splatoon with 4,060,000 units sold globally, shortly behind it was Super Mario Maker plodding along with 3,340,000 global units. Sitting in third, much like its 3DS counterpart was Mario Kart 8 and dangling on a thread afterward was Yoshi’s Woolly World.

But that was last year, looking ahead at this year, here’s a list of upcoming titles straight from Nintendo’s financial report from last quarter:

  • Hyrule Warriors Legends 3/25/2016
  • Bravely Second End Layer 4/15/2016
  • Metroid Prime: Federation Force 2016
  • Pokken Tournament 3/18/2016
  • Star Fox Zero 4/22/2016

Nintendo has also listed Project Giant Robot, obviously a working title along with Project Guard, another working title, both with TBD launch dates and plenty of speculation as to what they are. Also, the WiiU Legend of Zelda is slated for 2016, but sadly, lacks any other details.

Project Giant Robot and Project Guard, both WiiU titles will be eagerly anticipated, we hope to learn more as we approach E3. Could they be brand new IPs or sequels? Giant Robot makes me think of Xenoblade to be honest, but Guard? That will be interesting.
