It may not be the bear and bird, but the lizard and bat are really shaping up to take their spots as platforming superstars.
Playtonic Games released on their website new information and screenshots for their flagship game, Yooka-Laylee, the spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie. Infamously making their Kickstarter goal of over $270,000 in under an hour last year, and gaining almost $2 million by the end of that day, fans have eagerly been waiting for new information on the title they backed.
While backers have gotten constant updates over the past year via email, the reveal is the first look at what the final version of Yooka-Laylee is going to look like. The website also teases a ton of new media related to the game popping up over the next few weeks, and hypes up tons of new information to be released in an upcoming issue of Edge Magazine releasing on May 26th. They also tease new information coming from E3 soon after the magazine feature.
For the first time, story details for Yooka-Laylee have been released. According to the website, Yooka-Laylee will follow the titular characters’ adventures inside a “baneful business” as the duo seeks out “Pagies” they need to explore mysterious “Grand Tomes.” All of this, while fighting to overthrow the “corporate creep Capital B”.
All in all, Yooka-Laylee looks absolutely stunning and it brings about the return of a beloved genre. Slated to be released in October, a demo will be released for Kickstarter backers in July.
