THQ as a brand has been dead since the company folded in 2013, but Nordic Games is bringing it back by reincorporating itself as THQ Nordic.
Nordic Games started out in 2008 in Sweden as a venture to publish Dance Party Club Hits, Kart Racer and Truck Racer. Since that time, the company has grown year over year to become a major player in the videogames scene. In 2013, when it purchased many of the IP’s from THQ, people were asking who was this publisher and what will they do with these beloved franchises?
Since 2008, Nordic Games has grown significantly. They have acquired 16 individual IPs and franchises, including Darksiders and Red Faction, that has resulted in a catalogue of more than 250 actively sold games, over 60 trademarks, hundreds of web domains, and patents for software and hardware for good measure.
The eight-year-old publisher is now working on 23 game projects, 13 thereof not publicly announced. With many of these projects being based on THQ properties, it only makes sense to revive the classic brand at the next stage of Nordic Games’ history.
“As for the new logo design, we literally stumbled across it when browsing some art files, after we bought the THQ trademark and figured: why not? We hope the reception from our partners is less ambivalent but we’re OK either way,” Said Lars Wingefors, founder and owner of THQ Nordic (formerly known as Nordic Games) “We invite you to our Gamescom booth to play our games and see the logo in large-scale format.”
Most recently, Nordic Games announced Darksiders Warmastered Edition that will bring the classic action RPG Darksiders from 2010 to the PS4, Xbox One and PC. Little is know about the future games THQ Nordic has planned but with Gamescom starting this month on August 17th, we may soon hear more.
