Mega Man has been a staple in many gamer’s childhood. Spanning all the way back from the Nintendo Entertainment System, the action hero has been around for quite some time. However, now he will be making his way onto Cartoon Network.

DHX Media announced in a press release that they had signed a deal with Cartoon Network U.S. to take part in an original co-production alongside Dentsu Entertainment (dubbed Mega Man). Outside of the U.S., DHX Media’s Family CHRGD will bring the show to Canadians. Working directly with Dentsu Entertainment and DHX Media, Man of Action Entertainment will assist in the writing and executive producing the show. As they are responsible for some major cartoons (Ben 10 and Generator Rex), bringing them onboard is a monumental addition.

Content wise, it is stated to be based on the legendary franchise with the target audience being kids aged 6 to 11. Through the show, Mega Man’s alter ego will also reveal itself. Simply known as Aki Light. Beloved characters will make their dramatic return and there will even be some brand-new characters never seen in the franchise. This summer the 3D animated series is set to go into production. The Executive Producer, Content at DHX Media Ken Faier could not be more excited for this opportunity.

“We are thrilled that Cartoon Network has picked up the new Mega Man series for its U.S. viewers. This deal points to the solid demand for our original kids’ content, and highlights the strength of our strategy of collaborating with leading industry peers such as Dentsu and Man of Action to refresh evergreen properties for today’s kids,” says Faier in a press release. “Further, we believe Mega Man’s incredible heritage and proven popularity also positions the brand extremely well for longer term consumer product opportunities.”

It sounds like this show will build the foundation for DHX Media’s future endeavours with the ultra-popular weapon master.
