Amazon's Reboot of The Tick Gets First Trailer

Amazon released the first trailer for their live action reboot of The Tick.

The first trailer for The Tick premiered earlier this morning. The new series stars Peter Serafinowicz as its titular hero, the Tick. The Tick’s accountant sidekick, Arthur Everest, is being played by Griffin Newman. Also starring in the series is David Fury, known for his work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. In addition, Valorie Curry and Jackie Earle Haley will have roles in the upcoming superhero series. Amazon originally announced The Tick’s return last July. A pilot for the series was aired a month later before being picked up for development as a series.

Created by Ben Edlund in 1986, The Tick began as a newsletter mascot for the New England Comics chain of Boston area comic book stores. The Tick was developed as a spoof of popular comic book superheroes of the time. The character’s popularity led to The Tick receiving his own independent comic book series in 1988, which ran for for several years.

In 1994, Fox network introduced The Tick as a Saturday morning cartoon series, written and co-produced by the mascot’s creator. The character was voiced by Townsend Coleman who also voiced Michaelangelo from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon. The show ran for three seasons and has since become a cult hit.

The animated Tick series isn’t the only adaptation Fox has tried creating. In 2001, the company introduced a live-action TV series based on The Tick. The series starred Patrick Warburton as its hero and David Burke as sidekick Arthur. The adaptation was short-lived, lasting only nine episodes before being taken off the air.

Amazon’s reboot of The Tick will air as a two-part series and is planned to premiere next month. The show will consist of twelve episodes and will air as a two-part series, with the first six episodes available on Amazon on August 25 with the remaining six following in 2018.
