Call of Duty: WWII Reaches $500 Million On Opening Weekend

Call of Duty: WWII has already generated half a billion dollars during its opening weekend. The World War II epic that is the latest in the Call of Duty franchise managed to sell double that of last years Infinite Warfare game.

By surpassing the $500 million mark in sell-through numbers, WWII has already eclipsed popular movie releases such as Thor: Ragnarok and Wonder Woman.

Taking a look at the PlayStation 4 iteration of the game, the title has set a record as the best-selling digital full game by units sold on day one, with overall sale units doubling the year-over-year margins globally.

Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision commented on the matter:

“We challenged our players to get their squads back together and they answered the call, with the highest number of players we’ve ever seen on current gen consoles and PC. Call of Duty: WWII returns the franchise to its roots and the results are incredible, selling twice as many units in its opening weekend as last year, and setting the day one record for full-game downloads on PlayStation 4. Our $500 million opening weekend was not only bigger than Thor: Ragnarok’s, it was bigger than the opening weekends of both Thor and Wonder Woman combined. And we’re committed to supporting the community with continuous improvements and new content.”

Metrics include the sales of both retail and digital copies sold, with digital sales based on the first day of availability.

Call of Duty: WWII launched on November 3, 2017, and is available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One with optimization for Xbox One X.
