Dev Patel's Monkey Man Trailer Just Dropped

The trailer for Monkey Man has just dropped, which sees Dev Patel as director, co-writer and star, and Jordan Peele is on board, too.

Under an hour ago, the trailer for Monkey Man was launched on YouTube and across social media. You can watch the full three minutes below.

“Inspired by the legend of Hanuman, an icon embodying strength and courage, Monkey Man stars Patel as Kid, an anonymous young man who ekes out a meagre living in an underground fight club where, night after night, wearing a gorilla mask, he is beaten bloody by more popular fighters for cash. After years of suppressed rage, Kid discovers a way to infiltrate the enclave of the city’s sinister elite. As his childhood trauma boils over, his mysteriously scarred hands unleash an explosive campaign of retribution to settle the score with the men who took everything from him.”

Dev Patel, famous for Slumdog Millionaire and, more recently, The Green Knight, co-wrote, directed and stars in Monkey Man. What is interesting, though, is how Jordan Peele (Nope, Get Out) got involved. After posting the film to his social media with limited description, fans are celebrating because Peele’s name is now attached to it, but not in the way many think.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Monkey Man was originally planned for a Netflix release. Peele, head of Monkeypaw Productions (Candyman), allegedly saw the film and decided it needed way more than a streaming release, and picked up Monkey Man to bring it to theatres this April after delays over at Netflix.

Even after having it plastered across the trailer that Peele is producing, not directing, having his name attached seems to be enough to get fans of his work excited. Other film buffs, however, are pumped to see Patel play a different kind of role in this action thriller.

Monkey Man is coming to theatres on April 5, 2024.
