DS Lite no longer stocked at GameStop

GameStop is clearing shelf space to make room for the new 3DS.

Video game specialty retailer GameStop has confirmed that they’ll no longer be stocking the Nintendo DS Lite in order to push sales of the new 3DS, although Charlie Scibetta, senior director of corporate communications at Nintendo of America, says that Nintendo has not yet discontinued the aging handheld.

“Nintendo DS Lite is still available at most retail locations,” said Scibetta. “Consumers will be able to find Nintendo DS Lite without much trouble.”

Of course, the 3DS is the clear successor to the DS Lite, so GameStop’s actions aren’t particularly surprising. The retailer may be jumping the gun a little, but the DS Lite will inevitably be phased out over the next few years.
