Feminist Frequency Annual Report Looks to the Future

Feminist Frequency Annual Report Looks to the Future - 2015-01-27 13:24:48

Feminist Frequency’s annual report, released Jan. 23, outlines the organization’s social media status, audited financial status, media highlights and plans for 2015 among other info and data.

The new mission statement sticks to its original aim of providing critical analyses of modern media, especially the societal issues of race, gender and sexuality. It also advocates “the just treatment of all people online,” and says the organization plans to raise awareness about issues of online harassment, something which Anita Sarkeesian certainly has experienced in the last few years, as a result of her Tropes vs. Women in Video Games video series in which she criticizes representations of women in video games.

In a letter from Anita in the report, she states the harassment she’s experienced is still a daily occurrence in her life.

But, despite the incredible amount of backlash Sarkeesian has received since starting FF in 2009, the organization gained 157,435 followers on Twitter between Jan. 6 and Dec. 29 of last year and raised $230,000 in December alone through crowd-funded donations.

The report also lists a few plans for 2015 including continuing the Tropes vs. Women in Video Games series, starting a new miniseries about positive female characters in video games, and, perhaps most noteworthy, starting a new miniseries looking into representations of men and masculinity in video games.
