Sony reveals two new Sony Tablets

Sony is entering the tablet market with their latest portable devices.

Sony is going head to head with Apple and the iPad with the announcement of the official Sony Tablet. The new device will be available in two models – currently dubbed S1 and S2 – and features the Android 3.0 operating system, WiFi, and 3G/4G capabilities. Both tablets will support music and video streaming through Qriocity and the PlayStation-branded devices will allow users to run first-generation PlayStation titles through the PlayStation Suite.

The S1 and S2 will further have access to Sony’s library of eBooks, while the S1 will apparently function as a universal remote for compatible devices and can shift content to speakers and TVs.

As for the hardware, the S1 resembles the iPad and features a 9.4-inch screen with an “off-center of gravity design” (the back is slanted to provide better comfort), while the S2 boasts a clamshell design with two 5.5-inch display screens that can be used as one large screen or two separate screens. The tablets are expected to be released sometime in fall 2011, although no price point has been given at this time.
