Created by Glen A. Larson, Battlestar Galactica is a science fiction TV series, motion picture, book and comic franchise that centres around a space-faring group of humans, and their struggle against a genocidal race of cybernetic beings known as the Cylons. In the far reaches of the universe, the human civilisation, known as the Twelve Colonies, have been at war with the Cylons for many years. After a peace treaty turned ambush at the hands of the Cylons, the colonies were all but annihilated. Only a few ships and one battleship, known as the Battlestar Galactica, remained. The remaining survivors, lead by Commander Adma and the pilots known as the “Viper Fighters”, venture forth in search of the legendary Thirteenth colony, Earth, in the hopes of escaping the war with the Cylons. The Franchise began in 1978 with the TV series, Battlestar Galactica, and lasted only one season until its cancellation in 1979. In 1980, Battlestar 1980 attempted to revive the series, only to be cancelled after 10 episodes. Another attempt was made in 2003 with a short miniseries, which met with enough success to spawn a full series that lasted four seasons (2004-2009) and three movies: Razor (2007), The Plan (2009), and Blood and Chrome (2012).
