The next Spidey game opts for two Spider universes instead of four.
Activision has officially unveiled Spider-Man: Edge of Time, the next Spider-man title from Spider-man specialty studio Beenox. Like last year’s Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, Edge of Time will be set in multiple Spider-man universes, with a story that unfolds with the present-day Amazing Spider-Man and in the futuristic world of Spider-Man 2099.
In Edge of Time, players will have to save the life of Peter Parker in the “Amazing” universe in order to prevent a terrible, apocalyptic 2099. Beenox says that the game will feature “cause-and-effect” gameplay in which actions in one Spider-man world will have a direct impact on the other, while Peter David – the man responsible for the original 2099 comic series back in 1992 – will also be writing the script for Edge of Time.
“At Beenox, we are constantly listening to the fans and looking for new and creative ways to innovate the gameplay experience for them,” said Beenox studio head Dee Brown. “We want to create a totally distinct experience in Spider-Man: Edge of Time by working with Peter David on the story and creating this urgent, high-stakes experience where time is working against you and the fate of Spider-Man hangs in the balance.”
Spider-Man: Edge of Time will be available sometime this fall for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, PC and DS. Activision has said that more details will be revealed at the April 2 Spider-Man panel at WonderCon 2011.
