The lawsuit has been settled, but that doesn’t mean that GeoHot is happy.
GeoHot and Sony may have settled their differences in court, but the hacker is still using his blog to complain about the company.
“I am joining the SONY boycott,” writes Hotz. “I will never purchase another SONY product. I encourage you to do the same. And if you bought something SONY recently, return it.”
Hotz also attempted to address the concerns of supporters who had donated money for his legal defense in the hope that he would see the trial through to its completion. The hacker says that he will not profit from those funds, and adds that, “I will address the donations in a forthcoming post, and I think people will be happy.”
The Anonymous hacker group, meanwhile, is backing GeoHot, and issued a statement condemning Sony for their actions during the legal battle.
“In the eyes of the law, this case is over. We disagree,” writes Anonymous. “We believe Sony’s actions in this case are unjust. We do not agree with Sony forcing social media sites like YouTube to hand over the IP addresses of people who viewed GeoHots videos. We view this as a severe violation of privacy rights.”
“Where the judicial system has failed, Anonymous will persevere, by standing up for the rights of everyone, not just those who dared to challenge these corporations. Geohots’ belief was in freedom of information dissemination. We will stand with him.”
Anonymous is obviously (and over-dramatically, I might add) upset about the situation, and the group has called for a day of protest against Sony on April 16th.
For his part, GeoHot repeatedly refused to discuss his settlement, saying only that, “The terms of the settlement agreement are “confidential” and the matter requires that they be “confidential”.
