An unnamed source says Kratos will return sometime in 2012.

Citing an unnamed source, the unofficial PlayStation magazine PSM3 reports that God of War IV is currently in development and will be on store shelves in time for next year’s holiday season.

“PSM3 has heard from another source that God of War 4 is coming, and will hit in September 2012,” reads a story in the latest issue of the magazine. “Our source works closely with the God of War universe, and let slip he’d be working on a related project at the same time.”

Other rumors have previously indicated that the next God of War game would also feature some form of online co-op gameplay.

Last year’s God of War 3 supposedly brought Kratos’ quest for revenge to a conclusion, but it’s highly unlikely that Sony is actually done with the lucrative franchise. Given the ending of God of War 3, however, it’s not clear how Sony Santa Monica plans to move forward with the hypothetical God of War 4. The Greek pantheon just doesn’t have anyone left to kill, so Kratos might need to find a new group of gods for the next installment in the series.

Egypt, I’m looking at you.
