So here we are again, another year has passed bringing with it a near endless array of movies that both pissed off and thrilled a wide variety of audiences. Looking back, it actually wasn’t all that bad. For the genre loving geek contingent that Hollywood craves to pry money from, there was actually a wide variety of releases worth wasting your time and money on.
Leave it to Quentin Tarantino to not only turn the disgusting legacy of slavery into a ludicrously entertaining/empowering Spaghetti Western romp, but to also release it on Christmas day. The filmmaker is nothing if not ballsy and while he can be an easy whipping boy for directorial excess, he’s also just as talented as he thinks he is.
The end of the year provides a good opportunity to look back at how videogames have progressed or faltered over the last twelve months. Next week we’ll enter the New Year on a more positive note with a list of happy, inspiring events, trends and games, but, for now I’m starting off with my least favourite parts of 2012 because, well, it’s always nice to get the bad news first, isn’t it?
I’m personally of the belief that 2013’s E3 is going to see the debut of the Playstation 4 or the next Xbox, possibly both, with a market release for the 2013 holiday season. But there is another school of thought that argues that both Sony and Microsoft are considering 2014 for the year they release their new systems.
Welcome back for our last week of the Holiday Buyers Guide! The C&G the elves have gathered up their recommendations of what is hot and what is not for this holiday season!

Being a gaming journalist is a cool job. No doubt about it. You are correct to envy us. However, it’s not all drunken E3 parties and late night multiplayer battles with game developers and celebrities. We play games for a living, of course, but for every Far Cry 3 there’s a Hello Kitty’s Island Adventure (thanks, South Park).
2012 is almost over and we failed to be hit by an asteroid, catastrophic alignment of stars or massive epidemic of natural disasters. Instead what we got was some pretty decent comics and games, as well as the debut of Wii U to mark the start of a new console generation. As we see this year out, it’s time to look back at what has gone on, and recognize excellence when it has happened. While everyone at CGM has had their fair share of entertainment products that failed to live up to their goal, there were always other works that reminded us of why we love comics and games so much. Now it’s time for us to show you what we the staff at CGM, thought were some of the best things that 2012 had to offer.

There are bad movies that are just painful to watch and then there are movies so ludicrously misconceived that they become ironic spectacle. Jack Reacher falls into the latter category. The reason is simple. The character comes from Lee Child’s series of novels and the movie based on book nine is intended as a mythmaking franchise starter. On the page Jack Reacher is a 6’7 violent Iraq veteran drifter who intimidates everyone in his path on his way to righting wrongs while off the grid.
