Precursor Games Kickstarts an Eternal Darkness Spiritual Successor 1

Silicon Knights founder Denis Dyack, along with his new team at Precursor Games, announces today the creation of a spiritual successor to the 2002 survival horror hit, Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem.

According to GamesIndustry International, the Hamilton, Ont.-based team launched a crowd funding campaign for the episodic Shadow of the Eternals. The funding ends on June 6. Precursor hopes to achieve its goal of $1.5 million to create the first episode; the expected release would be in the third quarter of 2014 for PC and the Wii U. Precursor also hopes to become more interactive with their backers, giving them the chance to actually contribute to the game’s development. Shadow of the Eternals would be utilizing Crytek’s CryEngine.

Founded in 2012, Precursor is a small studio consisting of nine employees. The majority, including Dyack himself, has worked at Silicon Knights previously. The decision for Shadow of the Eternals to use Crytek’s CryEngine came from Silicon Knights’ arduous legal battle last year with Epic Games in regards to licensing the Unreal Engine 3.
