EA CFO Backtracks on Spokesperson’s ‘No Wii U Titles’ Statement

Contrary to EA spokesperson Jeff Brown’s statement last week concerning the company not currently developing titles for the Nintendo Wii U, chief financial officer Blake Jorgenson says that’s not the case: EA will continue to develop Wii U titles, but at a reduced rate. The majority of EA’s game developement would be directed towards Microsoft’s Xbox One, and Sony’s PlayStation 4.

Polygon reports Jorgenson was given the opportunity to make clear of EA’s status of producing Wii U games at yesterday’s Stifel Nicolaus 2013 Internet, Media and Communications Conference. Jorgenson, while fully aware of the next-generation competition between Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft, says the onus is on the consumers themselves to decide which manufacturer reigns supreme. It was then, though, Jorgenson revealed EA hasn’t necessarily ruled out developing games for Nintendo.

“You know, I think Nintendo’s business was more of [an] extension of their last console,” Jorgenson says. “We are still building titles for the Nintendo console, but not as anywhere near as many as we are for PS [sic] for Xbox.”

EA has already stated Madden NFL 25 and FIFA 14 will not be coming to the Wii U. As far as no FIFA 14 on the Wii U is concerned, EA attributed this loss to poor FIFA 13 sales. With respects to Madden, however, a version of Madden NFL 13 was released for both the Wii and Wii U. The absence of a Madden installment on a Nintendo platform would mark its first time since 1991.
