Square Enix has put out a press release updating Sony fans on their plans for the next gen version of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. The MMO—which launched recently and is only now leaving its launch growing pains by the wayside—is a cross platform effort, allowing both PC and PS3 subscribers to play together. The PS4 version of the MMO was announced earlier, and now Squenix has revealed that the beta for the PS4 version will be playable on the PS4 on the same days as the launch of the PS4 in Japan, February 22

, 2014. This beta will be free to all FFXIV subscribers currently playing the PS3 edition. The best news of all, however, is the announcement that PS4 version of FFXIV will be FREE for PS3 FXIV players migrating to a PS4, and that existing PS3 account information will transfer over so players can pick up right where they left off.

The full press release is below:

Square Enix Co.,Ltd (Based in Shinjuku ward Tokyo, CEO: Yusuke Matsuda,) today announced the date for the start of beta tests on the PlayStation® 4 (PS4) version of FINAL FANTASY® XIV: A Realm Reborn (FFXIV: ARR).

Beta testing will commence on the PS4 version of FFXIV: ARR, on Saturday the 22nd of February 2014.

The FFXIV: ARR game service is now live on Windows PC and the PlayStation® 3 (PS3), and a PS4 version is currently in development.
