Sony Plans to Sell 5 Million PS4's by March 1

Sony announced today that the company plans to sell five million Playstation 4’s by March 2014.

The statement was made by Sony Computer Entertainment America President Andrew House at the Tokyo Game Show. House originally said at the end of 2013, but Shuyei Yoshida later explained the statement on his Twitter that meant “fiscal year”.

This announcement comes in lieu of an interview with Fox Business,  in which SCEA Boss Jack Tretton spoke about holding back some of the Playstation 4 inventory, as pre-orders were halted at GameStop.

Contradictory to House’s plans, a Trusted Reviews articles says that “Sony has claimed that demand will outstrip supply”. This may cause gamers to have to wait a few months before the supply is re -stocked.

The Playstation 4 launches in North America on November 15th and on November 22nd in the Europe.  Opposite from the Playstation Vita, the Playstation 4 will release in the United States before Japan, with the Japanese version releasing in 2014.
