Sony praises Microsoft for policy reversals 1

Despite the ongoing competition between Sony and Microsoft, Shuhei Yoshida, Sony’s Worldwide Studios president, said the changes made by Microsoft regarding its online policies show how dedicated they are to making the Xbox One successful.

“It’s great that they were able to quickly realize that some of the things they were doing were no popular, and were able to make really quick decisions to change some of those things,” Yoshida told GamesIndustry International today. “Even things their engineering group must have spent a lot of time preparing before the launch.”

He added Sony is still regarded as the underdog in the United States, and that they never took Microsoft lightly despite the outcry against Xbox One’s policies during the summer. Yoshida also said the experienced management team behind the new system will help them transition into the next-generation of consoles, especially since most of them have been with Sony since the original PlayStation days.

When asked why gamers should choose PS4 over Xbox One this holiday, Yoshida said the console is not only gamer-focused, but also designed to be a positive experience for developers.

“We’ve really made sure that it’s hardware which game developers will enjoy making games on,” he said. “The ease of use, the performance, it’s very powerful hardware. We believe this is the most powerful console ever made.”

The other obvious selling point is the $400 price tag, which is a full $100 less than Microsoft’s Xbox One.

The PS4 launches Nov. 15 in North America and Nov. 29 in Europre. Thirty-three titles are planned to be available by the end of the year.
