Gabriel Knight Returns

Gabriel Knight Returns 1

In a press release today, it was announced that Jane Jensen, one of the star writers of the old Sierra Online stable of point and click adventure games, is bringing a fan favorite character back. The first Gabriel Knight game, Sins of the Fathers is getting a 21

st

century facelift and returning to desktop and mobile screens next year.

The rights to the Gabriel Knight series have been in the hands of Activision ever since the Vivendi-Universal acquisition, the corporate group that owned the remnants of Sierra Online. Jensen herself has been pitching to Activision over the years for a return to the property she created (but doesn’t own) and though we still don’t have a proper, fourth sequel, a fresh, HD coat of paint on a classic adventure game is always welcome.

Said Jensen about the news:

“I’m thrilled to be back at work on Gabriel Knight and to bring this classic game to a new generation of players. It’s a designer’s dream to be able to enhance the game and bring in more New Orleans flavor than technical limitations allowed us to in 1993. It’s going to look and feel like a brand new title. But never fear, 100% of the original Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers is here. I hope both existing fans and new players will love it.”

As to be expected, there will be new graphics which will be a huge improvement over the original 1993 release, as well as voice acting. And if you’re still jonesing for something new from Jensen, there’s always her Kickstarter game, now in development, called Moebius.
