The next game in the Star Wars universe will be Star Wars: Attack Squadrons, and it’ll be a free-to-play title developed by Area 52 Games.
Disney Interactive revealed the game in a press release, which also said it will be an “open web, space combat game.”
It appears to have a very similar look to the Nintendo 64’s Rogue Squadron series. Players will have the ability to pilot the classic X-Wing or TIE Interceptor, with the addition of some customization options, which will allow you to fine-tune your ship to a certain extent.
The focus of the game will be on multiplayer battles rather than actual missions. These dogfights will take place above “iconic Star Wars locations,” and can include up to 16 players at a time.
Invites for the beta are set to go out sometime in 2014, and you can sign up for it on the game’s official website.
If you were looking for a Star Wars game with a bit more substance, and you’re not a fan of free-to-play games, this may not be the game you’re looking for.
