Satya Nadella Named Microsoft CEO 1

Microsoft revealed this morning that Satya Nadella will be the new chief executive officer of the company.

Nadella has been working with the company for 22-years now, and recently was responsible for overseeing Microsoft’s Cloud group.   One of his first tasks is merging Nokia’s hand-set and services into Microsoft’s infrastructure.

Originating from India,  Nadella earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Mangalore University. Following this, he went on to earn two master’s degree: one in computer science and one in business administration.

While he began as an employee for Sun Microsystems, he eventually switched to Microsoft in 1992; taking up numerous positions in the company.

According to the press release, Nadella says “our industry does not respect tradition – it only respects innovation. “The opportunity ahead for Microsoft is vast, but to seize it, we must move faster, focus and continue to transform. I see a big part of my job as accelerating our ability to bring innovative products to our customers more quickly.”

Among the testimonials to him was founder Bill Gates. In his video Gates says “Satya has the right background to lead Microsoft through this era.” Gates is also switching his role as Chairman and becoming the company’s new technology advisor.

Nadella is the company’s third CEO, succeeding both Bill Gates and Steve Balmer. You can read more about Nadella here.
