Upcoming Console Wars movie adaptation in the hands of Sony Pictures

Based on over two hundred interviews with former Sega and Nintendo employees, Console Wars: Sega, Nintendo, and the Battle that Defined a Generation, written by Blake J. Harris, is now in Sony Pictures’ hands, and is being turned into a movie.

The book focuses on Sega’s rise to video game dominance and the epic battle that followed between Sega and its rival Nintendo. The foreword was written by Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg, who are interestingly enough writing the screenplay and directing the movie as well. Blake Harris will fill the role as executive producer.

The announcement was published by Booktrade.info, which alongside the news about Sony Pictures turning the book into a movie, also revealed Atlantic Books acquired the rights from HarperCollins imprint It Books to publish Console Wars in the U.K.

Though the story itself may initially appeal largely to those who know more about this console war and the video game industry itself, the inclusion of Seth Rogan and his partner in crime Evan Goldberg – both of whom were involved with popular movies like This is the End –  will certainly expand the project’s audience.
