Earth: Year 2066 Taken Off Steam - 2014-05-06 17:10:09

Valve removed Earth: Year 2066 off Steam yesterday for alleged dishonest marketing, now offering full refunds to any customers.

Chris Douglass of Valve explained the situation, saying “on Steam, developers make their own decisions about promotion, features, pricing, and publication…however, Steam does require honesty from developers in the marketing of their games. We have removed Earth: Year 2066 from Early Access on Steam. Customers who purchased the game will be able to get a refund on the store page until Monday, May 19th.”

According to The Escapist, 2066 developer Muxwell deleted negative comments as well as stole artwork to give the game a more positive light. They also said that players found the game broken, barebones and unplayable.

2066 was part of what is called Early Access titles. These titles are unfinished but still playable, allowing gamers to report bugs and other problems to the developer.

The game is set to be a first-person post-apocalyptic survival game and the screenshots made it look extremely promising.
