Another major setback was revealed today, this time it was Dead Island developer Techland announcing the delay of Dying Light, the studios upcoming free-running open-world zombie slasher.
The game’s website announced that in order to perfect the game’s parkour elements, extra time was needed.
“We wanted to give you a freedom of movement unprecedented in open world games. After many improvements and months of hard work, we have now come so close to realizing our initial vision we feel we cannot stop before it is ready,” Techland explained. “We believe the Natural Movement element of our game will change what you expect from the genre, and we don’t want to sacrifice any of its potential by releasing to early.”
Alongside the parkour gameplay, Dying Light will offer a unique day and night cycle, which will also affect the way zombies behave. At night, the undead will run faster, and have the ability to climb up buildings, turning that once-upon-a-time safe zone on the roof into an open killing field. The game will include four characters, all of whom will be customizable.
The game’s delay is also supported by their publishing company Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, according to Techland.
“It’s a real pleasure to work in an environment where quality is universally accepted as the top priority. We believe that this is the only way to make truly incredible games.”
Techland says we can expect “much more” about the game and its various features next month at E3.
