Club Nintendo to Close Its Doors

Nintendo announced today it will be shutting down its current loyalty program, Club Nintendo, and will share details of a new loyalty program “at a later date.”

The six-year old North American loyalty program will allow its members to continue collecting Club Nintendo coins until March 31, 2015, as long as products registered are released before Jan. 20.

Club Nintendo coins can be redeemed until July 1, 2015, at which time all Club Nintendo accounts will automatically be closed and any leftover reward coins will be deleted.

The program notice, released Jan. 20, says Nintendo will be adding “dozens of downloadable games and a limited quantity of exclusive reward items to the catalogue in February,” as well as a free download code for Flipnote Studio 3D for all its members.

Elite status members (who gained that status between July 1, 2014 and March 31, 2015) will also receive a free game download. Gold and Platinum elite members can choose one game from a selection of “cult classics, old favourites and new surprises” for either Wii U or 3DS.
