What to Expect from Star Wars Battlefront

What to Expect from Star Wars Battlefront 6

So it’s official. The trailer for Star Wars: Battlefront is out. While it didn’t show a lot of in game anything, it did give some hints on what to expect from the newest instalment in the series. Some of these things have been confirmed already, and a lot of what is discussed is merely speculation based on the trailer and from our experience with other Battlefront games and the Star Wars franchise, but they’re worth talking about. Here is what we noticed.

Vehicles are back

If it wasn’t obvious from the AT-AT and the AT-ST, vehicles will play a role in the game. That much is confirmed. What role they will play wasn’t really said. In the old games, getting in a vehicle meant you would take out tons of enemies, but you had a huge target on your back. This looks like that is still the case. We know for sure that speeder bikes, AT-ATs, AT-STs, X Wings, Tie Fighters and the Millennium Falcon are playable. But if the ship that did the Kessel Run in 12 parsecs is available, then there needs to be something for the other team. The only thing that makes sense here is the Slave One, but there is no word on that yet.

What’s also interesting is how the land and air vehicles seem to be on the same field. We know that space battles won’t return for the time being, but it looks like this game will harken back to the first Battlefront title and have land and air vehicles in the same map.

Support Gear

The shield emitter is back, but without the Droideka this time. Essentially, this tool creates a shield bubble that you and your allies can hide in if it gets too heated on the battlefield. It can absorb a decent amount of enemy damage before it becomes useless, but unfortunately we don’t know how much damage it can take yet.  This is shown early in the trailer just before a rebel soldier pulls a Leroy Jenkins in front of the AT-AT.

Class System

One of the cool things about the original Battlefront games was the number of different classes to suit any kind of play style. This looks like it will come back. During the trailer, a Rebel soldier turned invisible then used a jetpack and a rocket launcher to leave a lasting impression on the AT-AT. This leads us to believe there will be different types of characters that can do different things, like our spy friend.

Heroes and Villains

We already know players can control Darth Vader and Boba Fett, but what we don’t know is who else is playable. Odds are there will be more. Those two characters skew to one playable side, so we think it’s safe to expect Luke and Han Solo to make an appearance. But the older titles also featured characters like Chewbacca, and Princess Leia, so we expect more. Maybe even some characters from The Force Awakens.

Familiar Grounds

So we saw Hoth, and Endor. We know there are plans for a battle on Jakku, so we can expect to fight on famous planets in the galaxy far, far away.

For now, all we know is what’s confirmed. We just have a sneaking suspicion that there is a lot more info to come. This is just a bit of information we gathered from one trailer, so as more roll out, we’ll probably have a clearer picture of what we’re playing with here. Until then, speculation is still fun. What do you want to see in the next Battlefront?
