Next Mirror’s Edge Name Released 1

DICE revealed the official title for the new Mirror’s Edge game yesterday.

Two years ago, DICE announced they would be working on a new instalment. They remained silent about any information up until yesterday, when the official title Mirror’s Edge Catalyst was revealed on the official  Twitter account.

The image showed the Catalyst logo, along with a definition.

Until now, Mirror’s Edge Catalyst was referred to as “Mirror’s Edge 2” or a sequel. With the trailer depicting Faith getting a tattoo and many thought the game would be a prequel.

On the official page, Sara Jasson, the Senior Producer of Mirror’s Edge Catalyst said, “The team has spent a lot of time re-evaluating every aspect of the game and making it a new experience. This is not a sequel, this is not Mirror’s Edge 2. We have landed on a vision that honors the first game… but also brings a lot of great new, interesting gameplay and features to the experience for our players.”
So far a trailer, a video on gameplay development, and six pictures of artwork have been released. Not much else is known about the game, and Jasson said, “But as much as we loved that game, we knew it could be more. So that’s what we have set out to do as we introduce Mirror’s Edge to a new generation,” raising questions about how – or if – the new game relates to the old one.

Mirror’s Edge was first released in 2008. The action game revolved around Faith, a “runner”, sending messages among other runners while avoiding government surveillance. In the form of a 3D platformer, Faith would parkour over rooftops, on walls, and across the urban dystopia. While it’s considered to be a short game, Mirror’s Edge received fairly positive reception and maintained high ratings.

Right now not much is known, but it’s said that more will be shown at E3 next week, and is scheduled to be released in 2016.
