The Afro Samurai universe continues to grow as a sequel to the Afro Samurai video game has received an official release date.

Afro Samurai 2: The Revenge of Kuma is set to release Tuesday, September 22nd for PC and Playstation 4 with a release for the Xbox One via the ID@Xbox to be announced. Created by indie developer Redacted Studios, the game will release in three different volumes each featuring its own protagonist with different fighting styles and a different story. However, a special day one bundle pack will be available.

Fans may remember the hype that was built around the now syndicated Spike TV’s exclusive anime starring Samuel L Jackson. While only running five episodes, the show actually stood on its own merits, gaining a cult following and affording it not only video game tie-in, but also a movie sequel to the show.

In a press release, GM of Versus Evil Steve Escalante said “Redacted Studios, has been dreaming of launching this game, the way you are going to play it and experience it over the course of several volumes. It is a hip-hop opera that folds in a tragic family story with action-packed samurai action and a soundtrack from some amazing indie hip-hop artists.”

Similar to the first game, as well as the TV show, the game’s music will feature several up-and-coming indie hip-hop artists selected by Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA. RZA produced the soundtrack for both the TV show as well as the sequel movie, and while he didn’t produce the music for the game, he did offer creative advice on it.

A music video style trailer has also been released for Afro Samurai 2 featuring indie hip hop artist Visualeyez.
