It is always interesting to see how games you thought amazing really sold on the open market place. Nintendo has just released a full list of the top selling games up to September 2015. These give you a good idea how sales have been on the Wii U up to this point.

It is fantastic to see Splatoon on that list, selling over 2 Million units since release is not bad, especially considering it is a new IP on a system that does not have the install base of the other consoles. Hopefully this gives incentive to Nintendo to push new IP’s as well as the classic titles people know and love.
It is important to note that the core Nintendo lineup of games is doing very well overall. It is also interesting to see that Nintendo has a solid ever-green lineup. Games such as Mario Kart and Pokemon sell well quarter over quarter. This is one area Microsoft and Sony have a lot of catching up to do.
In the same report from Nintendo it also shows total hardware sales for all platforms. Although the Wii U is not selling as well as the PS4 or the Xbox One, it has managed to sell 10.3 million units. The 3DS is sitting at a staggering 54.34 million units. In comparison to Nintendo’s last generation of consoles, the Wii sold 101.59 million and the DS sold 154.01 million. If anything can be learned from Nintendo, it is don’t count them out. They are still selling millions of units for all the tent-pole releases, and even the new franchises are doing well. It will be exciting to see if they can carry this forward into the NX console generation and what that will mean for the games landscape.
