In a recent interview with Hajime Satomi, the President and CEO of Sega Sammy Holdings Inc., stated that there are currently plans to see a Sonic the Hedgehog film in theaters by 2018.
Sega Sammy Holdings is partnering with Sony Pictures to produce a live-action and animation hybrid production for the blue blur.
“Sega Sammy Group is currently planning with Sony Pictures to create a live-action and animation hybrid Sonic the Hedgehog movie scheduled for release in 2018. Like with this CG animation production, we would like to expand our business into other entertainment areas beyond what we are currently involved.”
While there is every possibility that this won’t be a total disaster, Sonic has been having some trouble staying consistent after the success of Sonic Generations. His latest outings, Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric and Sonic Lost World have largely been panned by critics, namely Sonic Boom.
However, where the game failed to raise any eyebrows, the Sonic Boom TV show appears to be doing well enough to get itself a second season. So there’s still some hope for poor the hedgehog.
