For readers who don’t know the backstory, Psycho-Pass is an anime set in Japan during the year 2113. The government has installed a new system, called Sibyl, that monitors the mental health of each citizen: their Psycho-Pass. If any citizen’s Psycho-Pass changes to suggest even the smallest amount criminal intent, they become marked as a danger to society. After encountering an inspector or “enforcer”, the citizen is either imprisoned to undergo rehabilitation or dies swiftly from a single shot of a special weapon called “the Dominator”.

Set in between the events of Season 1, Mandatory Happiness is a completely new story about two original characters, Nadeshiko Kugatachi and Takuma Tsurugi. Kugatachi is a calm and serious inspector who suffers from amnesia while Tsurugi is a hot-headed enforcer looking for a missing childhood friend. Players will get the choice to control either one of these characters and explore their stories along with the cast of enforcers and inspectors from Season 1.

New Gears of War 4 Trailer, “Tomorrow”, Released

New Gears of War 4 trailer, "Tomorrow", releases

Gears of War 4’s debut story trailer, “Tomorrow”, channels the darkness and intense tone that players felt of the original GoW: Mad World trailer in 2006.

Developed by The Coalition, Gears of War 4 is set 25 years after the conclusion of GoW3 and places players in control of Marcus Fenix’s son JD. The trailer shows that the world after the events of the third game became peaceful for some time, but during JD’s growth into adolescence it’s clear that the tomorrow his father dreamed of is now plunged back into destruction and darkness. Now every battle is a fight for survival as JD runs away from the locust herd.

Gears of War 4 is scheduled for release on Oct. 11 for Xbox One as the first chapter in a new saga of games. For players itching to get into the action, a closed multiplayer beta will start April 18 for those who’ve played Gears of War: Ultimate Edition on either Xbox One or Windows 10. The beta will be open to all Xbox Live Gold members the following week on April 24 and will be able to be played till May 1.

Get Ready For A Corpse Party On 3DS

Get Ready For A Corpse Party On 3DS

Nintendo has long been known for its Mario parties, but it will soon be host to a party with terror and copious amounts of blood.

Corpse Party, the long-running, cult survival horror franchise focuses on helping a group of high school students escape from a haunted elementary school.  While mainly released on the Sony handhelds (with one exception on the 3DS in Europe). However, a recent ESRB post shows that the newest iteration of the game will find it’s way to localization on the 3DS.

This will be a welcome addition to the 3DS’ solid library as a survival-horror game featuring a 16-bit aesthetic, RPG and action elements, and, as written in the ratings summary ” Some interactions can lead to sequences that depict acts of violence: a character repeatedly stabbed with a pair of scissors; a character stabbed with a knife. Violence is also described in the text (e.g., “The third victim was stabbed in the left eye an indeterminate number of times”; “Buckets of blood spilled out from my head. I’m sure it was hell to clean up later…”). Blood is frequently depicted near corpses and when characters are injured.”

The ratings summary goes on to describe the game’s more R-rated themes, saying “the game includes some suggestive references in the dialogue (e.g., “Big t*ts does it for you, eh”; “If you don’t, I’ll email you a beautiful crotch shot—so watch out; “He grabbed me and forced me down, then began unbuttoning my blouse…”). In one scene, bathing characters are depicted with soap bubbles covering their chests and genitals. The words “f**k” and “a*shole” appear in dialogue.”

As a long lover of the survival horror genre, and as a vocal proponent of seeing Nintendo break out of their comfort zone and provide more “mature” content on their platforms, I am incredibly excited for this weird and scary game.
