Thanks to the folks down at NIS America, Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness will be localized for the west and released September 13 on PlayStation 4, PS Vita and PC.
For readers who don’t know the backstory, Psycho-Pass is an anime set in Japan during the year 2113. The government has installed a new system, called Sibyl, that monitors the mental health of each citizen: their Psycho-Pass. If any citizen’s Psycho-Pass changes to suggest even the smallest amount criminal intent, they become marked as a danger to society. After encountering an inspector or “enforcer”, the citizen is either imprisoned to undergo rehabilitation or dies swiftly from a single shot of a special weapon called “the Dominator”.
Set in between the events of Season 1, Mandatory Happiness is a completely new story about two original characters, Nadeshiko Kugatachi and Takuma Tsurugi. Kugatachi is a calm and serious inspector who suffers from amnesia while Tsurugi is a hot-headed enforcer looking for a missing childhood friend. Players will get the choice to control either one of these characters and explore their stories along with the cast of enforcers and inspectors from Season 1.
The game was developed as a visual novel and the hook to its game play is that the player will constantly have to make critical choices during investigations. Each choice you make has consequences, directly affecting how the story will later play out.
Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness will also have a limited edition collectors pack available for purchase upon release. It will contain a copy of the game on your preferred Sony platform, an art book, the full soundtrack, three pencil boards, a microfiber cloth and a very stylish collectors case.
