Bandai Namco Banning Dark Souls 3 Cheaters

Dark Souls 3 Line of Vinyl Figures Coming April 2018

If you’re thinking about cheating in Dark Souls 3, you may find yourself in a lot of hot water with Bandai Namco.

Very recently, several Redditors have uncovered that players of Dark Souls 3 on PC have been banned from their accounts for the crime of cheating within the game; using mods to increase stats without leveling, increase enemy drops, etc.

What’s worse, honest players who may have interacted with cheaters are finding themselves on the bad end of the ban stick, and several players who claim to have not cheated at all are also being hit with bans. There is a lot of speculation as to why so many players are being banned, some positing that certain programs like ShareX and DS3 Tool (Dual Shock 3, I know I thought it was weird too) are being misinterpreted as cheating programs.

Redditor Meowtock has compiled a comprehensive list of what programs may or may not result in a ban, which can be found below:

99% Safe:

  • SCP Drivers
  • Shadowplay

Presumed safe:

  • ShareX
  • f.lux
  • DS3Tool
  • Windowed Borderless Gaming
  • DS4Windows
  • Logitech Software — Several confirmations of this being the cause, but also several saying that it’s just fine. If you receive the invalid data warning please try removing this.

Possible/maybe Culprits:

  • Save backups
  • x360ce (fucked up DS2, decent chunk of reports involving it in 3)
  • Crashing
  • Anything with an overlay

Almost Guaranteed Culprit:

  • CHEATING — Seriously, if you’ve cheated, PLEASE DON’T COMPLAIN ABOUT BEING BANNED HERE. THIS THREAD IS NOT FOR YOU

While this is a serious problem, and far to harsh a punishment, it’s good to see several Redditors banding together to try and resolve it.
