The third installment of the Japanese web anime series, Brotherhood: Final Fantasy XV – Episode 3:”Sword and Shield” was released today on Square Enix’s official Final Fantasy XV YouTube channel. The series paints the backstory for each of the four main characters in the upcoming game: Noctis Lucis Caelum, Gladiolus Amicitia, Ignis Scientia, and Prompto Argentum; and illustrates the intimate ties that were formed between them over the course of their friendships.
In this month’s episode of Brotherhood: Final Fantasy XV, “Sword and Shield”, we get a closer look at the history behind Gladiolus and Noctus. Through an integral point during Noctis’ childhood, the story tells us about how the strong bond between them was formed.
Brotherhood: Final Fantasy XV is one of several accompaniments to Square Enix’s upcoming game Final Fantasy XV. This prequel to the game ties in to the other prequel to the game, Platinum Demo: Final Fantasy XV. A feature film produced by Sony, Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV, which takes place parallel to the adventures of Noctis.
The main game, demo and web anime all tie into the thematic universe, Fabula Nova Crystallis Final Fantasy, a universe that began with Final Fantasy XIII, and also includes Final Fantasy XIII-2, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy Type-0, Final Fantasy Agito (for Android and iOS), and the upcoming Final Fantasy Type-0 Online.
Fabula Nova Crystallis Final Fantasy universe was the creation of Square Enix’s 1st Productions Department, which includes the talents of some of the creative minds behind previous titles in the Final Fantasy franchise, Kazushige Nojima, Shinji Hashimoto, Motomu Toriyama, and Yoshinori Kitase.
Final Fantasy XV is set to be released September 30th this year. Episode 4 and 5 of Final Fantasy XV: Brotherhood are rumored to be released in August and September leading up to the launch of the game. In the mean time, you can watch Episode 1 and 2 of Brotherhood: Final Fantasy XV below.
