The Xbox team has announced today that it will not be holding a media briefing at this year’s Gamescom in Cologne, Germany.
This does not mean Microsoft will be absent from the event itself. An Xbox “FanFest”, similar to what they had at E3, will be their plan with the focus being more on fans rather than media. More details about Xbox’s presence at Gamescom will be coming soon.
“We had a record-setting E3 and we were overwhelmed by the response,” said Aaron Greenberg, General Manager for Xbox Games Marketing in a post on the Xbox website. “At gamescom 2016 we’re excited to bring even more of these experiences into the hands of our fans. gamescom is always one of my favourite shows, and I’m excited to attend and spend time with everyone in Cologne.”
Sony did something similar at last year’s Gamescom, dropping a press conference in favour of attending Paris Games Week. Gamescom will be taking place between August 18 to August 24.
