Sony to Discuss PS4 Slim and Neo in September. PSP Rumored. 2

It seems that no one at Sony knows how to keep a secret anymore. Between all the leaks and pictures coming out around their upcoming hardware releases, Sony may have something that they want to tell us. The good news is that the PS4 Slim is real, and they’ll tell us more about it and the Neo in less than a month.

On September 7th Sony plans to hold a news conference where they’ll illuminate all of this PlayStation 4 business, or so a Sony spokesman told The Wall Street Journal. One can only assume that this is referring to both the upcoming Neo console as well as the leaked PlayStation 4 Slim.

The PlayStation 4 Slim looks to be similar to its predecessor in many ways. A smaller, sleeker version of the PS4 with a 500 GB hard drive and a lower price tag. This is good news for gamers not looking for the upgradability inherent to the Neo, or who just don’t want to pay for the next big thing every few months, as older PS4 models have ceased production.

As reported by Wall Street Journal, the run up to this press conference has seen the end of production on the existing models of the PlayStation 4. It seems that this is something that was put into place a few weeks ago, as many Japanese online store fronts are showing the PlayStation 4 as out of stock.

Is Sony trying to increase demand for their console by starving the market of hardware before a big conference? Probably, but there’s not really anything wrong with that. Furthermore, it helps unify the PlayStation brand and limit the number of legacy consoles on the market as Sony (Though I don’t doubt that Microsoft will be doing the same thing soon, if not already) continues to experiment with console upgradability.

Also, it will clear the way for any PSP announcements.

It’s only a rumor now, but there are rumblings of another psp in the pipeline. There are not a lot of details at the moment, but the rumor comes from the same source that gave us those lovely PS4 Slim photos yesterday, so there may be a little something to it.
