Dark Souls III DLC News Leaked Ahead of Official Reveal

The release date for the first Dark Souls III DLC is set. The pack, titled Ashes of Ariandel, is set for release on Oct 25, 2016. Sony revealed the title and release date in a tweet on the PlayStation account. The now-deleted tweet also contained a private link to the DLC’s trailer, which suggests that Sony may have accidentally leaked the news in advance.

Ashes of Ariandel is the first of two planned expansion packs for Dark Souls III. The expansion features new weapons, magical abilities, a new PvP-exclusive map named Immortal Competition. The pack will also come with a snowy PlayStation 4 theme. Not much more is known about the DLC, but images showcasing some of the new weapons and powers (which include a light-filled boomerang, ice magic and a flaming sword) are seen in an upcoming issue of Japanese magazine Famitsu. Players can pre-order Ashes of Ariandel by purchasing the Dark Souls III season pass, which retails for $24.99 USD.

Dark Souls III has been a massive success for Bandai Namco since its worldwide release this past spring to mostly positive reviews. It quickly became the fastest-selling game in the publisher’s history, shipping over 3 million copies in its first two months on store shelves. Developed by From Software, Dark Souls III sends players to the Kingdom of Lothric and must face off against the Lords of Cinder in order to survive an ongoing apocalypse.
